I bought this Cross Pen/Pencil set mainly for the mechanical pencil because I'm an engineer and I need a mechanical pencil that the lead sleeve withdraws back into the tip when you're not using it. The sleeves on most mechanical pencils are fixed to the tip and can't be released to slip back out of way before you put the device into your pocket. So what's the big deal, that sleeve works holes in all of my pant pockets, eventually all of my pens and pencils drop through and are gone... I invested in several models with the retractable sleeve and they all break after several month's use until I broke down and got the Cross Set. I bought the pen/pencil set mainly to have a matching set, never expecting them to last as long as they have. Well it's been over 15-yrs now and they still work great. Several times I thought I'd lost one or the other, but they turned up at the bottom of my closet on the floor.
