Product Description
Calibration Syringe, 3 Liter. Used to calibrate any spirometer on the market including the Micro Direct Alpha, Alpha Touch, In2itive, MicroLab, MicroLoop and SpiroUSB.3 Liter Calibration Syringe Review
This review really reflect the seller (CardiacDirect) more than the device itself.I was in need of a calibration syringe for a research study that I am involved in as a PhD student. When I checked Amazon, I was delighted to find this syringe listed by Cardiac Direct for the price, given that I am currently on a student budget. In MULTIPLE locations it indicates that the device is NEW. I added it to my cart and on checkout it listed the condtion as "NEW". I was surprised by the price but had faith in the seller in their advertising. This is where CardiacDirect went wrong.
Upon receiving the device it became apparent that it was a USED piece of equipment. The device is being resold after prior use in another clinical trial on COPD. Typically these devices need recalibration every three years. The device I received has only 6 months left on its calibration. I contacted the seller and spoke with an operations manager who stated that the fact that it was previously used in a clinical trial is stated on Amazon.
Ok, I will say this, I was able to finally find the print with a some extra clicks of the mouse where this is stated. Under the listed condition as "NEW", it indicates that it is actually "like new" and that it was used in a clinical trial. NO ADDITIONAL INFORMATION PERTAINING TO EXTENT OF USE WAS FOUND, AND THIS INFORMATION IS NOT IN AN OBVIOUS LOCATION FOR THE CONSUMER.
The device is NOT new and the word "NEW" should not be listed ANYWHERE in the add for this device as it is misleading and technically false advertising. In fact, I would argue strongly that the device is not even "like new" as indicated since it only has 6 months left of a 3 year calibration. I would accept this if the device had at least been recalibrated prior to re-sale (even electronics can be indicated as "re-furbished").
In discussing with the Operations Manager at Cardiac Direct, I was informed that there was no way to indicate the device was "used" for this listing on Amazon. Of course the logical thing to do would be to not list this device at all and there ARE options to list as "Open Box" items. At the very least, it should not be indicated as new ANYWHERE.
Bottom line is I paid for what was clearly advertised as a new product and it is clearly not a new product, not even "like new". What concerns me most is that, when asked, the Operations Manager at Cardiac Direct was OK with the fact that this item is associated with the word "new" on Amazon's website.
I am sorry but this is false advertising all the way. The item is listed as new in multiple locations which is misleading to the consumer. In addition, as stated, this device is not even "like new" since 83% of its life is gone. Cardiac Direct did offer to refund my purchase but I am stuck as I need this device immediately. Not sure how I am going to proceed at this time but I expect better business from a company such as Cardiac Direct. Lesson learned, if things appear to good to be true...they probably are.
